NBA Fines Mark Cuban $600,000 For Tanking Comments

The NBA today announced that Mavericks Owner Mark Cuban has been fined $600,000 for public statements detrimental to the league. Cuban’s comments, which concerned the notion of tanking and his perspective on the team’s competitive success this season, were made during a podcast that went live on Sunday (NBA).

Appearing on Julius Erving's "House Call" podcast, Cuban said, “I told players losing is our best option. Adam (Silver) would hate hearing that. ... I explained where we are going to be this summer, that we’re not going to tank again. This is like a year and a half of tanking and that was too brutal for me" (DALLASNEWS.com, 2/19). Listen to the full podcast.
