Miami Officially Gets MLS Team; Play Will Begin In '20 Season

David Beckham's group today formally announced that its new Miami MLS club will begin play in '20, "probably at a temporary site until the permanent stadium is ready" in '21. An audience of 1,700 fans and 300 media members was "on hand for the big moment." The team "name, logo and colors will be rolled out in the next few months, with input from fans." There have been "hints black and white will be the color scheme." Beckham "confirmed he will oversee the soccer aspect of the team, and plans to be a very hands-on owner." The team in '21 is expected to move into a 25,000-seat, $200M privately funded stadium in the Overtown area (MIAMIHERALD.com, 1/29).
