Mavericks Set To Unveil New Chinese Name As Part Of Rebrand

The Mavericks tonight will select a "new Chinese name" for the team, the "product of an intense five-month rebranding campaign." The three possible name choices are the Lone Rangers, Mad Horses and Wild Horses. The name change, set to be revealed at halftime of Warriors-Mavs at American Airlines Center, "won't affect how the Mavericks are branded or recognized in English." In China, the Mavericks are "currently called 'Xiao Niu', meaning little cow." Recently, some "began to question if the name was misrepresenting the horse in the team's logo" (ESPN.com, 1/3).
