ESPN Ribs Actress Scarlet Gruber For First Pitch At Marlins Game

“SportsCenter” Friday morning had some fun with telenovela actress Scarlet Gruber’s first pitch prior to Thursday’s Cubs-Marlins game. Gruber got a bit confused after walking to the pitcher’s mound – she was looking at second base and seemed like she was getting ready to make her throw before realizing home plate was behind her. ESPN’s Elle Duncan said, “First of all, she’s facing the wrong way, she’s facing second base.” At this point, Duncan did a derogatory young girl “giggle” and asked condescendingly in a high-pitched, squeaky voice, “Where’s the catcher?”

Gruber then made the pitch, which only went a few feet before rolling to the right of the catcher at home plate. Duncan noted Gruber also “almost hit the cameraman” who was kneeling on the side of the pitcher’s mound filming. Duncan: “He really didn’t flinch though.” ESPN’s Michael Eaves said the cameraman was “concentrating on her.” Duncan: “That’s true” (“SportsCenter,” ESPN, 6/23).
