Bellator MMA Looks To Make A Splash With PPV Event At MSG

MSG "should be packed" for Saturday night's Bellator PPV card, and the MMA promotion has "hyped the show as the biggest one in its history." The card is headlined by Chael Sonnen-Wanderlei Silva, with Matt Mitrione-Fedor Emelianenko in the co-main event. Bellator, "long the distant No. 2 MMA promotion" in the U.S. behind UFC, "wants to prove the leap to pay-per-view on the fight game's grandest stage can help the company make a splash." But signing former UFC fighters and "even broadcaster Mike Goldberg cant help at times but give the promotion a UFC-lite feel" (AP, 6/23). This is the second PPV in Bellator history, "but the first" under President Scott Coker (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 6/22).
