Woods Withdraws From Safeway Open In "Crushing Blow" To Tourney

Tiger Woods reportedly has withdrawn from the Safeway Open, "three days before the start" of the PGA Tour event. The news comes "just three days after Woods committed to play in the season-opening event" in Napa, Calif. This is a "crushing blow for tournament officials, whose ticket sales have doubled over last year." Woods was "set to play the pro-am with NBA star Steph Curry, then play alongside Phil Mickelson for the first two rounds" (GOLFCHANNEL.com, 10/10). The tournament "sold nearly 30K extra tickets" once Woods "announced he was playing" (TWITTER.com, 10/10).

Wonderful Pistachios is launching a new ad campaign featuring the character Ernie the Elephant, voiced by the WWE's John Cena. In addition, Seahawks CB Richard Sherman will be "featured in digital videos and two 'Get Crackin'' commercials later in the football season." The first two spots, "one focused on a baseball game and another that takes place in an elevator," begin airing today. Wonderful Co. handles its own creative and media strategies through its in-house Wonderful Agency (ADAGE.com, 10/10).

"MNF" To Include Segment On Randy Moss' Charlotte Bootcamp

By John Bauernfeind, Staff Writer

ESPN as part of its “MNF” pregame coverage for Buccaneers-Panthers tonight will air a video highlighting analyst Randy Moss’ involvement in the Charlotte community. Moss is one of several hosts of “Bootcamp,” a CrossFit workout held in Charlotte on Monday and Wednesday nights. An ESPN camera crew last Wednesday shot video of Moss and the more than 100 people who took part. “When we go into a city, we try to show some of the sites and flavor of the city in our broadcasts,” ESPN Senior Coordinating Producer Seth Markman said.

Moss approached Markman with the idea, which will air as a lead-in to his recurring “MNF” segment, “You Got Moss’d!” Moss, who is in his first full year as an analyst on ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown” and “MNF” productions, will then talk live on set about Bootcamp and what it means to him. Markman did not go into specifics, but added iconic shots of Charlotte would be shown on the pregame show and throughout the game.

The NHL Panthers today announced a multiyear partnership with Uber that includes having a designated pick-up and drop-off zone at BB&T Center. There will also be discounted driver tickets for select home games and ticket giveaways for Uber users throughout the season.
