Throwback Thursday: Suddenly, Last Summer

We look back a mere one year ago this week to the release of the now-infamous video that shows Ray Rice knocking his then-fiancee Janay Rice unconscious on an Atlantic City elevator. More than any other, Rice's case made domestic violence a frontburner issue for the NFL. Case in point: a SportsBusiness Daily archive search for "domestic violence" renders 640 results, with 500 of those from after July 24, 2014, when Rice was initially suspended two games. The incident also marked a significant change in the public/media perception of Roger Goodell. Columns from the week before praising the Commissioner for his player conduct reforms now read like they were part of another era.
