Adidas To Take Over NHL Uniform Deal With '16-17 Season

adidas has reached a long-term deal to provide uniforms to the NHL starting with the '16-17 season, taking over from subsidiary Reebok and beating out rivals Under Armour and Bauer Hockey. A source said that the Reebok deal pays the league about $35M per season and that the new deal "will see the rights fee double." A formal announcement is expected in September. It is "unclear whether the NHL will receive a cut of revenue from jersey sales or if it's a straight rights-fee agreement." A source said this will "surely mean big changes to uniform designs" (TSN.ca, 8/17).
