SEC Spring Meetings Focus On Power Conference Autonomy

The SEC spring meetings began today in Destin, Fla., and the sessions will "focus heavily on what autonomy means for the five major conferences, if, as expected," the NCAA D-I BOD in August "allows them to provide unprecedented benefits and resources" to student-athletes. SEC Commissioner Mike Slive said that member schools this week "will start to think about details they want included in new rules," but the "most significant discussion in Destin will be about the process" (CBSSPORTS.com, 5/26).

Meanwhile, the American Athletic Conference kicks off its second annual spring meetings today in Key Biscayne, Fla. Among the topics "expected to take center stage" is the '15 divisional alignment "once Navy comes aboard as the conference's 12th football member next summer" (Memphis COMMERCIAL APPEAL, 5/27).
