Offers In Place To Purchase Both Churches On Falcons Stadium Site

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed on Friday confirmed that "offers are in place" to purchase both Friendship Baptist and Mt. Vernon Baptist churches to make way for the Falcons' $1B stadium. Mt. Vernon leaders have "tentatively agreed to drop their asking price" to $14.5M, down from $20.4M. State officials can pay only $6.2M, but Reed said that the Falcons "have agreed to pay the difference." Both congregations are "expected to vote on the latest offer in coming weeks" (AJC.com, 9/13).
