Cowboys Formally Announce Stadium Naming-Rights Deal With AT&T

The Cowboys today formally announced their stadium naming-rights deal with AT&T, and while Owner Jerry Jones did not announce financial terms, he did say the deal is "not the most in dollars that there has been for naming rights." The name change from Cowboys Stadium to AT&T Stadium is "effective immediately" and will be "reflected in substantial signage updates throughout the upcoming football season, prominently featuring AT&T, both inside and outside" the venue (DALLASNEWS.com, 7/25).

The naming-rights deal is tied to a wireless upgrade at the stadium from Cisco, which is replacing 900 old AT&T access points with new antennas and installing 350 new access points in the seating bowl to improve WiFi coverage. The wireless upgrades will extend to the plazas and parking lots outside AT&T Stadium for marquee events such as the '14 Final Four. Cisco's system is valued at under $10M, said Cowboys COO & Exec VP Stephen Jones. The upgrades will be in place for the LSU-TCU Cowboys Classic college football game on Aug. 31. This to date this is Cisco's largest installation in the world among its 50 Connected Stadium WiFi projects (Don Muret, Staff Writer).
