World Cup Qualifier A Test For Seattle's Soccer-Mad Reputation

A crowd of over 40,000 is expected for the U.S. men’s national team’s FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Panama tonight at CenturyLink Field in Seattle. More than 36,000 tickets were sold as of this morning and strong walk-up sales are expected (Christopher Botta, Staff Writer). Ticket sales were "perceived by some as lagging, particularly after the huge crowd" of 53,679 for Saturday's MLS Whitecaps-Sounders match. However, attendance "could still break into the top 10 largest crowds in U.S. Soccer history for a home qualifier" (SEATTLE TIMES, 6/11).

Some fans have "complained about the prices" of tickets. The "cheapest is $50 (behind the goal), and most sideline spots are $85 to $110." The Sounders charge $29-60 for league games (WASHINGTON POST, 6/11).
