Boston Marathon Bombings: Red Sox Postpone Open House

The Red Sox are postponing tomorrow's scheduled Open House event at Fenway Park in the wake of yesterday's Boston Marathon bombings. Red Sox President & CEO Larry Lucchino in a statement said, "The club's security personnel will continue to work vigorously with Major League Baseball security, and federal, state, and local law enforcement authorities to maintain and reinforce the high level of security already in place at Fenway Park" (ESPNBOSTON.com, 4/16).

To pay tribute to the victims of the bombings, the Yankees will have a “special moment of silence” and will play "Sweet Caroline" – which is played at Fenway Park during the seventh-inning stretch – at the “end of the third inning tonight at Yankee Stadium” (ESPNNY.com, 4/16).

Meanwhile, Brazilian Minister of External Relations Antonio Patriota said "all necessary measures" are being taken to ensure security at next year's FIFA World Cup and the '16 Rio Games. Patriota said he is confident the measures "will guarantee the security of the events" (AP, 4/16).
