NFL Net Airs "Free Agent Frenzy," Other Networks Follow Suit

Sports TV networks have lined up extensive coverage around the start of the NFL free agency period, which begins today at 4:00pm ET. NFL Network aired “Free Agency Frenzy” from 10:00am-4:00pm, and is following that with another special “Free Agency Frenzy” from 4:00-7:00pm and then a two-hour “NFL Total Access.” ESPN is featuring NFL programming from 3:00-6:00pm with “NFL 32” (complete with a countdown-to-free-agency clock) and two editions of “NFL Live.” NBC Sports Network will air an expanded two-hour edition of “Pro Football Talk” from 4:00-6:00pm (THE DAILY).

NFL Network’s Chris Rose: "This is a lot of fun, obviously, for the fans out there that are enjoying this. This is like the holiday season for them. They get to go shopping." NFL Net’s Steve Wyche said several GMs told him that “once 4:01 gets here, it’s going to be a short but robust market for a lot of the younger free agents and it is going to move quickly.” NFL Network’s Charley Casserly said once free agency begins, signings will occur “maybe a little quicker than normal” (“Free Agent Frenzy,” NFL Network, 3/12).

There are a number of analysts and talking heads giving their opinions on the NFL free agency period. Who stands out, for better or worse? Let us know as you watch over the next few days.
