NBA, NBPA Nearing An Agreement On Blood Tests For HGH

The NBA and NBPA are "close to an agreement to test players' blood" for HGH, according to sources. The testing "could begin as soon as" the '13-14 season. HGH has been on the NBA's list of banned substances, but the league "has never tested for it" because the union did not allow collecting players' blood. A "decisive factor" in the deal was MLB and the MLBPA recently agreeing to HGH blood tests, "weakening the basketball union's claims that the test was unreliable or that blood testing is too invasive" (ESPN.com, 3/8).
