USTA Builds In Extra Day As Part Of '13 U.S. Open Schedule
The USTA on Friday announced that it is moving the U.S. Open women's singles final to Sunday and the men's final to Monday in '13. A decision about '14 and beyond "probably will come after" the '13 tourney. The moves build in "a day of rest ahead of each title match for the first time" and bring to an "end the tradition of what the U.S. Open has called 'Super Saturday' since 1984." This comes after top players complained about U.S. Open being the only major with its "semifinals and final on consecutive days" (AP, 12/14).
