Kevin Plank Says Under Armour Is Focusing On Hotspur Deal, Brazil

Under Armour sponsors Gold Medal-winning U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps, but UA President & CEO Kevin Plank disclosed during a quarterly earnings conference call Friday that the company is “not looking to make a huge splash this summer.” Instead UA “plans to spend most of its energy – and money – working to activate its new jersey deal” with EPL club Tottenham Hotspur and preparing for the ’14 FIFA World Cup and the ’16 Rio de Janeiro Games. Plank: “We’re staying away from that three-week span (this summer) and saying there are better ways to spend that money and aiming for Brazil.”

UA’s jersey deal with Tottenham begins July 1, and UA Global Brand Communications & Entertainment Diane Pelkey said that the club “plans to unveil the new jerseys early that month in London and will wear the new kits on its U.S. tour this summer” (BIZJOURNALS.com, 4/20).
