Progressive Field Hosting Ohio's First Outdoor College Hockey Game

Ohio State Univ. and Univ. of Michigan will compete Sunday at Progressive Field in the Frozen Diamond Faceoff, "the first outdoor college hockey game in the history of Ohio." The game also is the "signature event" for the Indians' offseason "Snow Days," which has "seen a dip in attendance from last winter's showing due to the warmer weather conditions of the past two months." Indians President Mark Shapiro said, "It's continually important for us to look for new ways to utilize our facility. ... With the hockey game, as well as Snow Days and other things, we're trying and testing to accomplish that" (MLB.com, 1/12).

The Indians are expecting a crowd of 30,000 for the game (DETROIT NEWS, 1/11). The forecast for the start of the game is a chance for snow and temperatures in the upper 20s (WEATHER.com, 1/13).

Meanwhile, Frozen Fenway outdoor hockey games conclude in Boston this weekend with two college games on Friday, followed on Saturday by one high school game and one college game (THE DAILY).
