Tonight's Poinsettia Bowl Could Draw Smallest Crowd In Its History

A crowd of about 25,000 is expected for tonight's San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl between Louisiana Tech and TCU. If that holds true, "it could be the smallest attendance in the seven-year history" of the game. The game "could have picked" an 8-5 San Diego State team instead of the 10-2 TCU squad "and sold more tickets." But bowl Exec Dir Bruce Binkowski said that the game's "mission is to fill hotel rooms in San Diego during the week before Christmas" (SIGNONSANDIEGO.com, 12/20).

TCU Sports Network has again produced a digital bowl guide for its latest postseason berth. The school launched similar efforts prior to its Fiesta Bowl and Rose Bowl appearances the previous two seasons. IMG College's Rudy Klancnik, GM of TCU IMG Sports Marketing, said that each of the previous guides generated a profit of $10,000-15,000 (IMG College).
