NHL's Bettman Remains Hopeful Coyotes Deal Will Get Done

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman appeared on Toronto's Sportsnet Radio The Fan 590 today and was asked if the Coyotes' playoff game tonight against the Red Wings "could be the final game in Phoenix for the team." Bettman said, "It's not really a fair question. And the speculation that we've been holding some announcement waiting for them to stop playing is absolutely wrong. We're still focused on trying to make it work in Phoenix. ... Do we have an infinite amount of time? The answer's obviously not. But we haven't been holding an announcement."

Bettman then "declined to confirm reports he has been in discussions" with True North Sports & Entertainment Chair Mark Chipman about a "possible 'Plan B' option that would see the Coyotes relocated back to Winnipeg" (THEGLOBEANDMAIL.com, 4/20).
