GetGlue Signs Deals For Series Of Sports-Related Check-In Portals

GetGlue, a N.Y.-based social media startup, has struck official partnerships with several teams, leagues and broadcast networks for a new series of sports-related check-in portals. Similar to other social media hubs operating around affinity-based check-ins, such as Fanvibe, GetGlue seeks to build groups interested in a specific team, league or individual game. Through new partnerships with the NHL, Turner Sports, Fox Sports, HBO Sports, the NFL Network and the Spurs, among others, GetGlue adds to customary digital rewards for checking in by rewarding active users physical stickers from favorite brands, as well as various ticket and merchandise discounts.

GetGlue to date has been primarily focused on entertainment-related check-ins before this new entry into sports. "Sports are a fundamentally social activity, so this is a natural fit for us," said GetGlue Founder & CEO Alex Iskold. GetGlue also is beginning a new integration with location-based social media hub FourSquare so fans can check in to watching a particular game from a particular location.
