Terminally Ill Broadcaster Nick Charles To Call Boxing Match On HBO

Broadcaster Nick Charles, who is suffering from terminal cancer, will call the opening boxing match of HBO's "Boxing After Dark" telecast on Saturday night, a 12-round featherweight bout featuring Mickey Garcia and Matt Remillard. HBO's Bob Papa, who will call a later match, "agreed to step aside" and let Charles call the early fight alongside analysts Max Kellerman and Roy Jones. Charles since '01 has hosted Showtime's "ShowBox: The New Generation," but he "had to take time off for chemotherapy" (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 3/25).
