DUNLEAVY SIGNING HELPS TELLEM TIE DUFFY'S FIRST-ROUND TOTAL

SFX Basketball's Arn Tellem has signed Warriors first-round selection Mike Dunleavy for representation, pushing SFX's first-round selections to five, matching Bill Duffy's BDA Sports Management's first-round total.  The signing of Dunleavy means Tellem/SFX has either had the most or tied for the most first-round clients for four straight years (THE DAILY).  See THE DAILY's '02 NBA Draft agent chart.


MORE REPORTERS: JACK FORD TO HELM "SPORTS" SPINOFF IN JULY

Jack Ford will moderate "Sports Reporters II" when it debuts on ESPN on Tuesday, July 2 at 7:30pm ET.  Like its predecessor, "Sports Reporters II" will feature a host and three other sports media journalists discussing current events.  NBC Sports' Jim Gray and ESPN Radio hosts Michael Kay and Dan Le Batard will join Ford for the premiere episode (THE DAILY).


AFTER TWO-DAY REVIEW OF ATHENS, IOC OFFICIALS GET "TOUGH"

The AP reports that IOC officials completed a two-day review of Athens today and "put organizers and the government on notice" that the IOC will be "pretty tough" to ensure contracts get signed and construction crews start working on all sports venues.  IOC Review Team Chair Denis Oswald said, "The delays are there.  Contracts which were supposed to be signed are not signed ... and the delays are about on an average of 50 days more or less, and this is, of course, a concern" (AP, 6/27).


OWNERSHIP JUST A CLICK AWAY: WCHL TEAM AVAILABLE ON EBAY

The NATIONAL POST reports that "cash strapped" WCHL Anchorage Aces Owner Michael Cusack is trying to sell his team on eBay.  The minimum bid is US$1.5M, but a bid of US$2.3M – "just enough to cover the US$2.2-million owed to creditors – would make you the owner of the Aces."  A couple of potential buyers have responded, but "none have met the minimum bid yet" (NATIONAL POST, 6/27).


CITIZENS BANK LACES UP SPONSORSHIP SNEAKERS FOR PHILLY RACE

Philadelphia Mayor John Street announced today that Citizens Bank has signed on as the first title sponsor for the Philadelphia Marathon, which will be run on Sunday, November 24.  Due to the deal, first place prize money has been raised from $2,500 to $3,500 for the top male and female runners in the race (THE DAILY).

PAINT BOOTH:  Auto racing teams often display different paint schemes on their cars to reflect a different sponsor, brand, promotion or special cause.  While the Winston Cup Series is off this weekend, the Busch Series visits Milwaukee for the running of the GNC Live Well 250, and ppc Racing's No. 57 Busch Series Ford of Jason Keller will display the red colors of Jewel-Osco stores, a subsidiary of the team's primary sponsor, Albertson's (THE DAILY).

The 10th Annual ESPY Awards announced additional presenters and attendees today for the July 10 telecast.  Tim Allen, Diane Lane, Toni Braxton, Brian McKnight, Shannon Elizabeth, Julius Erving, Jeri Ryan, Cal Ripken, Jr., John Madden and Chris Berman will join the already announced guests (THE DAILY).

The DAYTONA BEACH NEWS-JOURNAL reports that the Magic "will start non-nationally televised home games at 7 p.m. this upcoming season," after starting all games at 7:30pm ET "ever since the team began play in 1989" (DAYTONA BEACH NEWS-JOURNAL, 6/27).

RadioShack Corporation, MLB and '02 HOF inductee Ozzie Smith today launched a national search to find dedicated baseball fans as part of an "Xtreme Fan" contest.  The grand prizewinner will receive an all-expense paid trip for two to a game of the '02 World Series and get to sit with Smith for part of the game (THE DAILY).

Chicagoland Speedway and Delphi Corp. have announced an extension for the title rights to September's Delphi Indy 300 through '03 (THE DAILY).

The AP reports that Jay Berwanger, who "won the first Heisman Trophy and became the first player ever drafted by the NFL, died of lung cancer after a long illness" at the age of 88 (AP, 6/27).

Univ. of MD football coach Ralph Friedgen will throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Orioles' 7:05pm ET game against the Yankees (THE DAILY).

The Black Sports Agents Association's 3rd Annual Sports & Music Weekend begins tonight in Las Vegas.  Those expected to attend events throughout the weekend include Basketball HOF inductee Magic Johnson, Titans RB Eddie George and Chargers DE Marcellus Wiley (THE DAILY).

Rap artist Bow Wow, Mavericks F Michael Finley and Sonics G Gary Payton are among those expected to attend the 7:30pm PT premiere of "Like Mike" at the Mann Village Theatre in Westwood, CA (THE DAILY).

The first 15,000 fans at the MLB Rangers' 7:05pm CT game against the Angels will receive an Ivan Rodriguez Celebriduck (THE DAILY).

The Richmond International Raceway will sponsor SpeedFest, beginning at 5:00pm ET in Richmond, VA.  Various IRL drivers, including two-time defending Indianapolis 500 champion Helio Castroneves, will be in attendance (THE DAILY).


IN OTHER NEWS…….

REUTERS reports that "steep gains at U.S. box offices already have Hollywood eying not only a super summer but a record year with over $9 billion in ticket sales."  If the figures hold, it would mark just over a 7% increase from '01's record total of $8.35B, which was the "first time that U.S. box office figures topped $8 billion" (REUTERS, 6/27).

The AP reports that Hearst Corp. "is launching a women's magazine based on programming from the Lifetime cable channel, which it co-owns along with The Walt Disney Co."  The new magazine, to be called Lifetime, is "set to debut next March with a circulation of 500,000" (AP, 6/27).
