CARDINALS PLAN MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR KILE TONIGHT

The ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH reports that the Cardinals will honor late P Darryl Kile tonight with a 10- to 15-minute tribute at Busch Stadium prior to the game against the Brewers.  Game time "will be moved back from 7:10 to approximately 7:20 or 7:25 p.m."  Cardinals' management "has mandated a more subdued atmosphere, especially between innings … though video highlights of Kile will be shown on the scoreboard."  Players will wear a patch with the inscription "DK 57" on the left sleeves of their uniforms.  They have been wearing "JFB" on their right sleeves in memory of Jack Buck (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 6/25).

Meanwhile, the Astros will honor Kile, who pitched for the club from '91-97, with a memorial plaque at Minute Maid Park.  The circular plaque with the initials "DK" will hang along the left field wall under the '97 Central Division championship banner, the last season he played for Houston (AP, 6/25).


DOMINICAN BASEBALL MANAGERS REACH MLB MILESTONE

The K.C. STAR reports that when Royals manager Tony Pena and Tigers manager Luis Pujols exchange lineup cards tonight at Kauffman Stadium, it "will mark the first time in history that [two] managers from the Dominican Republic have done so."  To mark the occasion, Dominican President Hipolito Mejia will head a delegation to the game, and MLB Commissioner Bud Selig will make a presentation (K.C. STAR, 6/25).


LABATT TO PUT THE BLUE IN CFL BLUE BOMBERS NEXT SEASON

The CFL Blue Bombers announced this afternoon that Labatt has signed a new, two-year title sponsorship agreement with the club.  As part of the deal, Labatt becomes the official beer of the team and will be the only beer served at Canad Inns Stadium for all Blue Bombers events.  Blue Bombers games will now be known as Labatt Blue Bombers Football.  That title will be used in all advertisements, PA address announcements and other promotional efforts (THE DAILY).


HOGAN'S HEROES: SPALDING RETURNS GOLFER'S NAME TO BALLS

Spalding today unveiled the Ben Hogan Apex Tour golf ball, which it will support with a $20M marketing campaign to begin around the start of the British Open.  PGA Tour members Hal Sutton, Len Mattiace, Bernhard Langer, Luke Donald and Mark Brooks all have signed to play the ball and participated in its development.  The ball will be available in golf shops and stores that carry Ben Hogan merchandise starting July 1 (THE DAILY).


REEBOK KEEPS THE PARTY GOING AFTER TONIGHT'S BET SHOW

BET will host its second annual "BET Awards" tonight at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, and Reebok plans to hold an after-party in the Wolfgang Puck grand ballroom to showcase its "Sounds & Rhythm of Sports" campaign.  Reebok's party will begin at 8:00pm PT, and a mix of celebrities and athletes are on the guest list (THE DAILY).

Meanwhile, Merrill Lynch raised its rating on Reebok today to "strong buy" from "neutral," expecting "strong new management and growth in apparel lines to lift earnings."  Merrill analyst Virginia Genereux said that investors were "underestimating potential growth in Reebok's branded apparel business," including the NFL.  Shares of Reebok were trading at $28.75, up 0.7%, in afternoon trading (REUTERS, 6/25).


ALL SPORT BODY QUENCHER INKS DEAL TO SPONSOR CYCLING TOUR

All Sport Body Quencher announced today a sponsorship deal with Threshold Sports to sponsor ten Pro Cycling Tour races this year in major markets, including Philadelphia, N.Y., San Francisco and Miami (THE DAILY).


LIGHTER BUZZ

Heisman Trophy Exec Dir Rudy Riska said today that the award ceremony "is moving uptown from its home at the Downtown Athletic Club, whose long-term financial troubles were heightened by the Sept. 11 attack.  This year's trophy will be presented at the Yale Club in midtown and the award could move there for good" (AP, 6/25).

NBA draft prospects Drew Gooden, Caron Butler and Chris Wilcox will make a 5:00pm ET appearance at the NBA Store in N.Y. to preview tomorrow's NBA draft (THE DAILY).

20th Century Fox will host a screening of the movie "Like Mike" for the Mavericks Foundation and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas at 7:00pm MT at Loews Cityplace.  Mavericks F Dirk Nowitzki and Gs Steve Nash and Michael Finley appear in the film (THE DAILY).


IN OTHER NEWS…

The MA Ballot Law Commission this afternoon ruled unanimously that Republican candidate Mitt Romney "does meet the residency requirement to run for governor and ordered that his name appear on the ballot for the September primary" (AP, 6/25).

The AP reports that Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will perform live from Asbury Park on NBC's "Today" show on July 30.  The concert, to be held in a non-disclosed location, will coincide with the release of the band's new album, "The Rising" (AP, 6/25).

Last week's top-rated entertainment show that wasn't a repeat was a prime-time edition of "The Price is Right."  Host Bob Barker "has been delivering solid ratings with a series of editions that feature the U.S. military," and the show "helped CBS to a victory in the Nielsen Media Research ratings race, stopping a seven-week NBC winning streak" (AP, 6/25).

The following are the top sports Internet properties accessed from home and work, ranked by Nielsen//NetRatings in terms of unique audience for the week ending June 9, 2002.  "Unique audience" = the number of people who access a site, with each person counted only once. "Active Reach %" = the number of unique Web users viewing a Web site one or more times, expressed as a percentage of the total active Web population for this week (i.e. 4.8% of Web users accessing the Internet from home viewed a site on ESPN at least once this time period).  "Average Time Spent" = the average amount of time a visitor has spent at that property for the month.  The data is based on audience measurement of more than 50,000 U.S. panelists who have Internet access at home and 7,000 U.S. panelists who have Internet access at work.  Traffic to these sites is the predominant URLs, and is grouped to include commonly owned sites (NetRatings):

TIMES writes that the Ali segment, which features a taped interview from April with David Frost, "is compelling for a number of reasons, but mostly because Ali is so lucid" (L.A. TIMES, 6/25).

A&E's "Biography" will profile Tim and Nina Zagat at 8:00pm ET.

E!'s "True Hollywood Story" will profile the movie "Dirty Dancing" at 8:00pm ET and "Flashdance" at 10:00pm ET.
