Media Notes

In Boston, Chad Finn wrote longtime Bruins TV play-by-play announcer Jack Edwards talent "has long since been proven," and proven again, "no matter where you land on his Black-and-Gold-colored approach" to calling games. To make it as far as he has “also requires luck, and he has had his share.” Finn wrote it is just "too bad the last year-plus had to be such a challenge for him." Finn added he will miss seeing good pal Edwards around the rink, and of course miss his on-air work. In the same piece, Finn also wrote he “may have underestimated how good” former Patriots coach Bill Belichick would be on television. Finn predicts that Belichick’s “presence and capability on multiple media platforms is going to stand as a weekly reminder to NFL owners that the smartest football mind around remains available to coach their team” (BOSTON GLOBE, 4/20).

SAYING GOODBYE: In Philadelphia, Rob Tornoe reported longtime WIP-FM host Glen Macnow is retiring after 31 years. Macnow was a reporter for The Inquirer “before making the jump to radio.” Tornoe wrote Macnow is “a calm voice in a sea of hot takes and outlandish behavior.” His final show will be July 13 (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRIER, 4/20).

TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES: In Cleveland, Marc Bona noted ESPN announcers’ “microphones were off” during the beginning of Game 1 of the Cavaliers-Magic playoff game. It “came back on with 10:13 to go in the first quarter” and a “brief apology” from play-by-play announcer Beth Mowins (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 4/20).
