Names in the News

Former Denver Post columnist WOODY PAIGE, 77, will be inducted into the Colorado Sports HOF tonight at the Hilton Denver City Center. For the past 50 years, Paige has "been the most recognizable sportswriter in Colorado." Longtime sports columnist MARK KISZLA wrote, “You can't write the history of Colorado sports without Woody Paige.” Paige and longtime preps writer SCOTT STOCKER will become the sixth and seventh sportswriters to be inducted into the Colorado Sports HOF. Paige does not deny it "feels a bit odd" to be inducted into a HOF that primarily includes athletes, and he "just might note in his induction speech that there should be a wing at the Hall devoted to writers" (Colorado Springs GAZETTE, 4/16).

NAMES: A civil suit says that a well-known Cleveland Heights tattoo artist should be paid after the popular video game “NBA2K” used the tattoos he inked on Lakers F LEBRON JAMES, because the video-game maker “painstakingly copied” the artist’s “copyrighted works and never compensated him for it.” Attorney TODD TUCKER said during opening statements in federal court in Cleveland that tattoo artist JIMMY HAYDEN owned the rights to how his work is used, including on James’ video-game avatar. At issue in the trial are two tattoos that Hayden inked on James in 2008. Hayden is “suing over the use of his tattoos in NBA 2K16-NBA 2K20” (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 4/15)....CBS Sports’ J.J. WATT’s charity softball game will be played on May 4 at Sugar Land’s Constellation Field. Those participating and attending include Texans QB C.J. STROUD, DE WILL ANDERSON JR., and WR STEFON DIGGS, along with Pro Football HOFer ANDRE JOHNSON, Texans coach DEMECO RYANS and former NFLer BRIAN CUSHING (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 4/16)....PGA Tour player RICKIE FOWLER and his wife ALLISON are expecting their second child on Aug. 4 (GOLFWEEK, 4/16).
