John Deere taps Purdy to lead search for 'chief tractor officer'

John Deere has turned to 49ers QB Brock Purdy to “play quarterback in their irreverent search for the company’s first ‘chief tractor officer’” as part of a new advertising campaign, according to Matt Maiocco of NBCSPORTSBAYAREA.com. The company emphasizes that the new role is a “real job to handle the company’s social media, including the managing of their new TikTok channel while also creating short-form video content.” In spot advertising the newly created position, Purdy and 49ers OL Colton McKivitz appear along with Pacers G Tyrese Haliburton, Gold medal-winning U.S. gymnast Gabby Douglas, “supposed Purdy look-alike” tennis player Anna Frey, Corn Kid and more. John Deere was “apparently inspired" by Purdy's viral video from the 49ers’ bye week in which he and then-fiancée Jenna Brandt “operated a tractor on her family’s farm in Iowa.” She previously worked for John Deere. The person hired for the position will “make stops at stadiums and sporting landmarks across the country,” as well as national parks and “some of the most scenic roads in America to tell stories and provide social-media content” (NBCSPORTSBAYAREA.com, 4/16).
