NFL chooses Packers to take on Eagles in league's first Brazil game

Packers

The Packers have been selected to open the 2024 season against the Eagles in São Paulo, Brazil, marking the NFL’s first South American game, according to Richard Ryman of the GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE. Ryman notes it “came down to the Packers or the Cleveland Browns” as the Eagles' opponent. The Packers “gave hints that Sao Paulo was not their first choice.” Packers President & CEO Mark Murphy has said “on several occasions that Germany would be an attractive venue,” but he also said that the Packers would “gladly” play in Brazil, where the team is “one of the two most popular NFL teams in the country.” The matchup will be “considered a road game” for the Packers and visiting teams “typically do not receive a ticket allotment for season ticket holders” (GREEN BAY PRESS-GAZETTE, 4/10).

GO PACK GO: The AP reports this will mark the Packers’ second international game in the last three years. They played their first regular-season game outside the U.S. in 2022, when they lost 27-22 to the Giants at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The game will “stream exclusively on Peacock” and also be available on free broadcast television in the local markets of the Eagles and Packers (AP, 4/10).
