ESPN's 'Monday Night Countdown' could see another shake-up as network pursues Kelce

ESPN is not alone in going after newly-retired NFLer Jason Kelce, as NBC, CBS and Amazon Prime Video “all have interest"Nathan Ray Seebeck/USA TODAY NETWORK

ESPN is planning another “'Monday Night Football’ pregame shake-up” that puts analyst Robert Griffin III’s spot “in jeopardy” as the network is "aggressively pursuing" former NFLer Jason Kelce for Monday nights, according to Andrew Marchand of THE ATHLETIC. ESPN is not alone in going after Kelce, as NBC, CBS and Amazon Prime Video “all have interest.” Kelce’s decision is viewed as the “linchpin of the NFL TV free-agent season." Sources also said that Pro Football HOFer Larry Fitzgerald’s part-time role on ESPN’s “Monday Night Countdown” is “in limbo” after appearing on about one-third of the shows last season. Marchand notes that Fitzgerald’s contract was up in February and has not been renewed yet. ESPN informed Fitzgerald that they “wanted to see how the rest of their MNF pregame lineup shapes up before making a final decision” on a new deal. Full-timers Marcus Spears and Ryan Clark are expected to return on “Countdown,” alongside host Scott Van Pelt. Michelle Beisner-Buck will remain the feature reporter. Sources also said that ESPN “continues to pursue Bill Belichick,” but he has told networks that he is “disinclined to be part of a regular studio show” (THE ATHLETIC, 3/27).
