College Notes: Stanford athletes to discuss potential student-athlete employment model

In S.F., Marisa Ingemi cited sources as saying that members of C-House, an organization with representatives from all 36 sports at Stanford who meet with administration, were asked at their most recent quarterly meeting by AD Bernard Muir to “start thinking about what student-athlete employment models may look like.” Stanford sprinter and co-president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Megan Olomu said that Muir told the C-House athletes to “discuss among themselves what an employment model would mean for them.” Their spring meeting is set for April 24 (S.F. CHRONICLE, 3/22).

WEB TRAFFIC: After Duquesne’s NCAA Tournament bid and first round win against BYU on Thursday, Duquesne President Ken Gormley said that web activity has “skyrocketed.” TRIBLIVE’s Megan Swift reported on Thursday alone, Duquesne had 62 million media and social media impressions, which is a number the university “usually sees over the span of a whole month.” Duquesne VP/Marketing & Communications Gabriel Welsch said that its official website “usually gets between 10,000 and 15,000 visits during one day during this time of year.” On Thursday, it had “more than 60,000 -- an over 400% increase” (TRIBLIVE, 3/22).
