Upcoming PWHL game at Bell Centre creates next opportunity to break attendance record

The PWHL will be taking its game between Montreal and Toronto on April 20 to the Bell Centre, giving the league “another chance to break the all-time women’s hockey attendance record,” according to Mark Puleo of THE ATHLETIC. The matchup -- being marketed as the “Duel at the Top” -- will be contested at the 21,000-seat home of the Canadiens, marking the sixth NHL venue to host PWHL games in the league’s inaugural season. The league set its previous attendance record in a February game between Montreal and Toronto when 19,285 fans came out to Scotiabank Arena. Montreal and Toronto are also set to play Sunday at the Penguin's PPG Paints Arena (THE ATHLETIC, 3/12). The CP noted the April 20 game was originally scheduled to be played April 21 at Verdun Auditorium, which seats 4,114 fans (CP, 3/12). CBC.ca’s Erika Morris wrote since the new league launched, all parties involved had been saying that “it was only a matter of time before the Canadiens' arena opened its doors to the women” (CBC.ca, 3/12).
