Commanders ownership invests in new round of FedExField renovations

Commanders

The Commanders announced another round of fan-facing renovations this morning that takes the new ownership group’s total investment in improving the stadium, fan, and player experience to $75M since purchasing the team last summer. The latest upgrades will include faster stadium ingress, new premium seating options and suite experiences, improved food and beverage, and sound system upgrades. FedExField is also getting a structural refresh, including upgraded elevators and escalators, water and mechanical systems, and other infrastructure improvements. The team said it will announce its architecture and construction partners for the project closer to the 2024 NFL season.

New premium seating includes a VIP field tunnel club through which players will pass as they head onto the field, the 1932 Club, an entirely new premium suite space, as well as upgraded furniture and carpeting in select premium areas, new terrace tables, and an upgraded USO lounge for veterans and military members.

Throughout the stadium, the Commanders are improving food and beverage service, including new market concepts and drink lanes that will allow fans to get back to their seats faster, and the team is also investing substantially in the stadium’s sound quality. A more efficient parking system and frictionless security entry points will speed up ingress.

The new ownership group, helmed by Josh Harris, put $40M into the stadium last summer. The upkeep comes as the team considers its long-term future at FedExField. The team owns the land and FedExField itself, in Landover, Md., and is contractually obligated to play there at least until 2027. The Commanders could continue to play at the much-maligned 27-year-old stadium as long as they like, but the state of Virginia and D.C., where the team’s former home RFK Stadium sits, have expressed interest in attracting the team, efforts that would almost certainly include new stadium proposals.
