NFL Franchise Notes: Reid has chance to be highest-paid coach in football as contract talks begin with Chiefs

NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero noted the Chiefs and coach Andy Reid are “expected to begin negotiations in the coming weeks on a new contract” that sources believe “should soon make Reid the highest-paid coach in football.” Chiefs GM Brett Veach is “also in line for a new deal,” replacing the final two years on the contracts the duo signed following the 2019 season after the Chiefs’ win in Super Bowl LIV. Pelissero noted “despite perpetual media speculation about retirement,” the 65-year-old Reid has “shown no signs of slowing down,” confirming a day after Super Bowl LVIII that he would return in pursuit of a three-peat. Reid is “believed to rank roughly eighth among head coaches in average annual value on his contract” -- and third in the AFC West after the “big-money additions in the past two years” of Broncos coach Sean Payton and Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh, respectively. Veach is believed to be “one of the NFL's lowest-paid GMs” (NFL.com, 2/26).

CAN'T MAKE PERMANENT: In West Palm Beach, Joe Schad wrote the Dolphins’ throwback uniforms are “universally admired and adored,” but it “doesn’t sound like Miami plans to make them the primary game day uniforms any time soon.” Schad added “pretty much everyone loves the colors of the throwbacks as well as the logo design and uniform features,” however, it would “cost a lot of money to scrap all of the current Dolphins logos at the stadium and facility.” Schad: “But for [owner Stephen] Ross, it’s not about money. He just likes the new logo and uniforms” (PALM BEACH POST, 2/26).
