Barclays Center set to host expansion Professional Bull Riders team

Former Bucks owner Marc Lasry's Avenue Sports Fund "acquired the sanctioning rights" for Professional Bull Riders team N.Y. Mavericks which will "compete in five-on-five bull riding competitions in the 12-event 2024 PBR Camping World Team Series season," according to Fiifi Frimpong of the N.Y. DAILY NEWS. The Mavericks’ inaugural homestand is scheduled for August 9-10 and it will be the "first time Barclays Center will host a bull riding event in its 12-year history." Lasry's Avenue Capital Group recently launched the Avenue Sports Fund with the aim of "providing capital solutions to a wide variety of established teams and leagues across the globe," as well as "investments in emerging sports to capitalize on areas of exponential growth" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 2/23).

MONEY NO ISSUE: The OKLAHOMAN noted the Oklahoma Wildcatters, which is backed by LIV golfer Talor Gooch’s FJS Ventures, has its inaugural homestand scheduled for July 12-14 at Paycom Center (OKLAHOMAN, 2/23). The WALL STREET JOURNAL's Deighton & Beaton noted the Wildcatters are Gooch’s "first investment from his company FJS Ventures," which he runs along with his agent Preston Lyon. PBR last year said that bids for new teams in the league "began at" $20M each and last year Gooch "won roughly" $36M in prize money from LIV. However, Gooch "didn't attend a PBR event until the fall of last year" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 2/23).
