Apple launches Apple Sports app for real-time scores, stats, live betting odds and more

The free app for iPhone users is available to download now in the App Store in the U.S., the U.K. and Canada.

Apple

Apple has released its first sports-focused app, called Apple Sports.. The app, which launched officially this morning, is a free live score and stats hub for iPhone users in the U.S., Canada and the U.K.

Apple Sports features two separate scoreboard feeds, My Leagues and My Teams, for users to personalize, allowing them to toggle between current-day view, as well as previous and future matchups. The app will start by offering scores for MLS, NBA, NHL, NCAA basketball (both men’s and women’s), English Premier League and a handful of other European soccer leagues. The offerings will expand to MLB, NFL, NWSL, WNBA and college football as those seasons start later this year.

On top of standard matchup information like score, game clock and broadcast information, users will also be able to see betting odds (which can be turned on and off via app settings). Live scoring updates will provide lineups, play-by-play and stats when expanded into single-game view.

This is Apple’s latest sports offering following the release of MLS Season Pass. The MLS Season Pass through Apple TV eclipsed the two-million subscriber threshold in its debut year.

MLS x Apple is a finalist for Technology Collaboration of the Year in the Sports Business Awards: Tech. Winners will be announced on March 5 at an awards ceremony in New York City as part of the kickoff to SBJ Tech Week.
