Texas Tech reports record operating revenue in FY23

The Texas Tech athletic department had $146.8M in operating revenue for FY23, a “record for the department,” according to Don Williams of the LUBBOCK AVALANCHE-JOURNAL. The figure is up from $110.2M in FY22, which was the “first year the Tech athletics budget hit nine figures.” Texas Tech also had an operating surplus of $10.4M. The “biggest reason” for the increase came from contributions the department realized -- $56.25M in FY23 -- a mark that was “nearly double” the $28.75M the year before. Texas Tech Deputy AD Jonathan Botros indicated that FY23 was “an outlier,” though, in that Tech “used contributions received in previous years to pay more short-term debt on facilities projects.” Williams noted the financial report also “shows a jump in ticket sales revenue,” to $18.21M in FY23 from $13.56M the year before. Most of the increase “came in football ticket sales revenue” (LUBBOCK AVALANCHE-JOURNAL, 2/1).
