Univ. of Georgia football will allow alcohol sales for the general public at Sanford Stadium for the 2024 football season, according to Marc Weiszer of the Athens BANNER-HERALD. Fans have "been long waiting for" the move as other football stadiums in the SEC have already been selling beer in their venues. Alcohol was already available in premium areas of the 92,746 seat stadium. Georgia and Auburn were the two remaining holdouts of selling alcohol among what will be a 16-team league this fall. According to AL.com, Auburn will also “start alcohol sales in 2024.” Georgia already sold beer for men’s and women’s basketball games at Stegeman Coliseum. Georgia’s official sponsors include Dos Equis, Twisted Tea, Creature Comforts with other offerings including Bud Light, Coors Light and Miller Lite (Athens BANNER-HERALD, 1/31).

KEEP BUILDING: In Atlanta, Chip Towers noted “in the midst of nearly” $200M worth of ongoing construction projects, Georgia are “about to add to it” with construction on a new outdoor track-and-field facility is “set to start this summer.” According to AD Josh Brooks, fundraising is “well underway”, but he would “not reveal how much has been raised or what the total cost of the project will be.” However, it is “not expected to be cheap.” A new track means that Spec Towns Track, which has been at its current location parallel to Lumpkin Street since 1964, "will be demolished." In its place, Georgia football coach Kirby Smart is "expected to get the two additional practice fields he so covets." Georgia have been "limited to basically two outdoor fields" since the new football facility was completed in 2021 (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 1/31).
