FS1's Ellis gives impromptu Grippo's endorsement during St. John's-Xavier broadcast

Grippo's is the "official chip of Xavier athletics," so they have them in abundance at Cintas Center

FS1’s LaPhonso Ellis gave an off the cuff endorsement of Grippo's during last night's St. John’s-Xavier men’s basketball game as he ate a bag of the snack food company's potato chips alongside play-by-play announcer Connor Onion, according to Dave Clark of the CINCINNATI ENQUIRER. Ellis explained that his “favorite barbecue chip was red hot” and that former NBAer Brian Grant “introduced him to Grippo's.” During the broadcast Ellis said, “We had a debate about who has the best chip. So he gave me one of these guys that he had actually ordered to his home. I tried it, and was like wow! Where have these been all my life? And since then, I've been a Grippo's lover. ... These Grippo's potato chips are phenomenal.” Ellis noted he learned that Grippo's is the "official chip of Xavier athletics," so "they have them in plenty, in abundance here (at Cintas Center)." Ellis said Grippo’s are the "best barbecue chips out there,” and the company has been "making them fresh daily since 1919 with no preservatives.” Onion then responded, “Are you the spokesman? You know a lot about these chips.” The bit then concluded with Ellis saying, “Thank you, Brian Grant. I appreciate it. You introduced me to a really good one, big fella” (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 1/31).
