Topps lands UFC trading card license in multiyear deal

UFC/Topps

UFC is getting back into business with Topps for its trading card license, another win for Fanatics after its acquisition of the collectibles company in 2022.

The agreement is for multiple years and will be announced today with no financial terms revealed, but it will see Topps return to the sport and replace Panini after Topps was last in the sport in 2022.

Now under Fanatics ownership, Topps has started minting new UFC-branded 8-card Chrome packs that will hit shelves in late February to early March of this year. There will be 200 base cards and two autographed cards in every box along with other limited editions with some of UFC’s biggest current fighters participating including American bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley, Mexican flyweight champion Alexa Grasso and British welterweight champion Leon Edwards.

UFC had originally partnered with Topps in 2008. This is Topps’ only partnership in combat sports currently.

The sides are examining several ideas for activating the partnership including at UFC events and at card shops, according to Kelvin Smith, Global Head of Licensing & Partnerships at Fanatics Collectibles.

“We are excited about the way Topps has evolved since the last time it had UFC rights. Now, post Fanatics acquisition and with the Fanatics machine behind Topps, there is quite a bit of new innovation from a product and marketing perspective,” Smith told SBJ.
