Media Notes

In Detroit, Tony Paul noted that Greg Gania, the voice of the Double-A Eastern League Erie SeaWolves, has been “hired to fill in on" Tigers radio broadcasts on WXYT-FM when play-by-play broadcaster Dan Dickerson “has to move over to television.” Dickerson is expected to "work between 20 and 30 games on TV in 2024," when the Tigers' new television play-by-play broadcaster, Jason Benetti, is “absent to fulfill his national baseball and football broadcasting obligations” (DETROIT NEWS, 1/30).

RIGHTS ISSUE: The CP’s Neil Davidson reported Canadian Soccer Business has “launched legal action against Mediapro, its media partner, over breach of contract," meaning CSB has “taken back the broadcast rights to all its properties and is looking for new broadcast/media partners.” CSB, whose ownership group and board includes the Canadian Premier League owners, “looks after marketing and broadcast rights” for both the Canadian Premier League and Canada Soccer. Mediapro Canada owns OneSoccer, the streaming service that “airs both CPL and Canadian national team games” (CP, 1/25).

A NEW HOME: The Athletic has hired sports business and media reporter Andrew Marchand after he spent six years with the N.Y. Post. Marchand begins with The Athletic on Feb. 5 (N.Y. Times).
