WSU's Chun says partnership with Mountain West only a 'short-term' option for football

Washington State AD Pat Chun was “adamant” that the scheduling agreement reached with the Mountain West Conference, which provides both WSU and Oregon State six football games against MWC schools, is a “short-term, nonconference agreement,” according to Greg Woods of the Spokane SPOKESMAN-REVIEW. When Chun was pressed on whether the agreement “could turn into a longer-term fixture,” he reiterated that these are “nonconference matchups for WSU, which wants to remain as flexible as possible moving forward -- which is why the program is not ready to commit to a long-term arrangement.” As for other sports, like basketball and volleyball, Chun said that he and his team are “working to finalize those schedules.” Chun added that he was “open” to the possibility of having WSU and OSU play each other twice in a season as part of a home-and-home series, but “only as a last resort.” Chun: “That is something that is always an option.” He added that next season WSU will “continue to wear the Pac-12 logo on its jerseys and paint it on its home field.” Woods noted both WSU and OSU are “expected to negotiate broadcasting agreements separate from those of Mountain West teams,” which are partnered with Fox and CBS Sports Network. Chun: “We’ll work with Oregon State through the conference to identify television opportunities and partners” (Spokane SPOKESMAN-REVIEW, 12/1).
