In Minneapolis, Miller and Nightengale reported that Twins radio play-by-play caller Cory Provus will inherit Dick Bremer’s spot in the TV booth next season and the organization will also “stay in-house to replace Provus on radio” by promoting studio host and fill-in play-by-play voice Kris Atteberry to the everyday job. Previously, Provus “called a handful of games” on Bally Sports North. Before joining the Twins back in 2012, he worked in Milwaukee alongside Bob Uecker and “also spent two seasons as a backup broadcaster” for the Cubs (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 12/1).
TAKING OVER FULL TIME: In Phoenix, Nick Piecoro reported Chris Garagiola was named the D-backs radio play-by-play announcer after serving for two years as the club’s “fill-in radio voice” and host of the pre- and postgame shows. Garagiola will take the reins from Greg Schulte, who had been the “only play-by-play voice in franchise history” before retiring at the end of this past season. Garagiola said that he “grew up going to games and learning how to keep score while sitting in Joe Garagiola Jr.’s booth at what was then known as Bank One Ballpark” (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 12/1).
