Cowboys' Jerry Jones says Cuban's decision to sell Mavs stake in 'best interest' of fans

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Mark Cuban's sale of a majority stake in the Mavericks to Miriam Adelson "will be in the best interest, in my mind, of sports and the Mavericks fans,” according to the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. Jones in an appearance on KRLD-FM said Adelson is “outstanding." He added, "She's a doctor, she came from Israel as an adult, is savvy, savvy, savvy. And she’s got a good organization with her there and will unquestionably do a great job.” When asked about Cuban’s decision to sell, Jones said, “I’ll go along with his decisions anytime. He knows how to make good ones and he’s made them" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 12/1).

GAMBLING QUESTION: In Dallas, Tim Cowlishaw wrote Cuban “doesn‘t want to spend his own millions the next few years to persuade the Legislature to catch up with other states” that allow sports betting. So if Adelson and the Sands Corp. are “willing to do the hard digging that will require,” Cuban is “OK leading the basketball operation and shouting at refs for another 10 years” (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 12/1).

NO VEGAS VENUE: In Las Vegas, Richard Velotta cited a source that said that the Sands Corp. and the Adelson family “aren’t in talks with Oak View Group to acquire or partner” on a $10B resort complex that would include an “NBA-ready arena planned on 66 acres at Las Vegas Boulevard and Blue Diamond Road.” A Sands official “declined to comment on the speculation that the company would acquire the Oak View project” (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 12/1).

WHAT’S FILLING HIS TIME: Cuban in an email said that he is stepping away from “Shark Tank” to spend “more time with my kids before they get too old and start ignoring me even more than they do now!” In Dallas, Alexandra Skores noted Cuban has three children with his oldest being in college. Since joining the show, Cuban has invested $19.85M “across 85 companies.” But a “majority of his time” is spent running the Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company. Beyond that, Cuban is a “big fan of pickleball.” Cuban in November said pickleball is a “great business.” He added it is “going to continue to grow because the thing about pickleball is, put aside that it’s the hot, growing, fastest, all that kind of stuff -- anybody can play. It’s like ping pong on a tennis court.” Last year, Cuban bought into VIBE Pickleball League (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 12/1).
