Jets GM Joe Douglas criticized for role in team's problems

The problems the N.Y. Jets are facing right now have a "lot more to do with the moves" GM Joe Douglas has "made (and not made) than the coaching job" Robert Saleh has been doing, according to Mark Cannizzaro of the N.Y. POST. Saleh is the "public face of the team," but Douglas is "much more the root of this problem than his head coach." Douglas is made available to reporters by the team "only a couple times a year," so that "allows him to conveniently hide from public accountability for the mess he’s created." Douglas, who was hired and given a six-year contract in June 2019, "continues in very large part to get a free pass." The Jets are 24-53 under Douglas’ watch since. Cannizzaro: "What does Jets owner Woody Johnson do now? It’s a tangled web he’s weaved with [QB Aaron] Rodgers at the center of it all" (N.Y. POST, 11/25).

WORRIED MUCH? In N.Y., Antwan Staley wrote Saleh is “not one of those people” who "worry about him possibly losing his job.” But Saleh “should be worried,” as he has a 5-29 record since becoming the Jets coach in 2021. This year was "supposed to be different after Rodgers was traded to the Jets," but it has "been the same old story." Saleh and Douglas “put all their eggs into Rodgers’ basket, thinking he would solve all of their issues." However, there "wasn’t a Plan B after Rodgers’ injury." The Jets "need to use the final six games to evaluate everyone within the organization." It is “unclear if Saleh and Douglas were given assurance they would return no matter what happens the rest of the season." However, it is "time for the team to look towards the future" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 11/24).
