Cubs fans wanting season tickets no longer need to “hold off until their name comes up on the waiting list,” as the team yesterday released a new “20-game plan” with seats available in the field box outfield, upper box infield, upper box midfield and upper box outfield sections, according to Meghan Montemurro of the CHICAGO TRIBUNE. Fans also can purchase a 41-game plan or full season tickets. Montemurro noted the Cubs “have taken an aggressive approach to selling season tickets” offering a deal in early September, when the team was in a playoff position, which allowed fans placing a deposit on 2024 season ticket “priority access to purchase tickets to 2023 postseason games.” Marquee 360 SVP Cale Vennum said that the Cubs season ticket renewal rate was “in the mid-90% range,” with “more than 1,700 new accounts” before yesterday’s public sale (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 11/20). In Chicago, Maddie Lee noted interest in season tickets “took a hit during the pandemic,” which “coupled with a team rebuild and losing seasons in 2021 and 2022.” The Cubs lowered season ticket prices by an average of about 5% for the 2023 season, but next year prices will be raise by “about 3% compared to last year” (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 11/20).
