Sharks' historic on-ice woes leading to trouble at the gate

Sharks games on Tuesday nights specifically have seen smaller crowds at SAP Centergetty images
The Sharks announced a crowd of 10,108 in attendance for their ninth home game of the season last night, and that has “become the norm for Tuesday nights,” according to Curtis Pashelka of San Jose MERCURY NEWS. Arena officials “estimated” that actual attendance was around 7,500. Still, “that’s the second-smallest announced crowd of the season” -- with last Tuesday’s crowd of 10,074 being the smallest -- and only 49 more than the smallest all-time at the arena, 10,059 for a Nov. 3, 2021 game against the Sabres. The Sharks, coming off a 29th-place finish last year and an offseason in which they traded D Erik Karlsson, the Sharks “only sold about 8,200 full-season equivalent ticket packages.” Clearly, "Tuesdays are an issue," with it being a school night. Also, less foot traffic around downtown San Jose -- due to several businesses still allowing employees to work from home -- is also "believed to be a reason" for smaller weekday crowds (San Jose MERCURY NEWS, 11/14).
