Major League Baseball

Under the stewardship of Vasanth Williams and Karri Zaremba, both the flagship MLB app and its in-venue Ballpark app continue to evolve for fans’ benefit. Williams hails from Big Tech — with prior tenures at Amazon and Microsoft — and led last year’s MLB app reboot with more personalization, as well as new features this year such as new data overlays in game streams and Gameday 3D. That’s the first-of-its-kind tool that leverages tracking data to give users ultimate control on reviewing highly accurate digital recreations of plays from any angle, even where there was never a camera. Zaremba was co-founder of Venuetize before joining the league and now oversees the Ballpark app and MLB-owned Tickets.com. A 2021 Game Changers honoree, she and Williams led a team rolling out Go Ahead Entry, a new league system first trialed in Philadelphia that uses facial recognition for ticketing. Zaremba’s role also includes the implementation of new fan-to-fan marketplace partner SeatGeek and the creation of a network of authorized ticketing providers to develop consistency and security. The goal is to develop a cohesive, end-to-end fan experience and one that is contextually aware of the user — a program piloted with the Mets to deliver a personalized welcome message and recommendations when fans enter Citi Field. — J.L.
