YouTube claims 'Sunday Ticket' glitches fixed as streaming efforts put in spotlight

YouTube has fixed the technical problems that plagued "NFL Sunday Ticket" during the busy 1pm window last Sunday, according to YouTube Global Head of Media & Sports Partnerships Lori Conkling. She told SBJ's Ben Fischer on Thursday at the SBJ Media Innovators conference, "It's completely mitigated" (SBJ, 11/2). THE ATHLETIC’s Richard Deitsch writes what is “implicit with a premium product such as Sunday Ticket is that it must perform with no glitches, which has long been the selling point of linear television (outside of outages in your area).” Retired Fox Sports Networks President Bob Thompson said, “Up until last Sunday, YouTube’s delivery of Sunday Ticket had been nearly flawless for seven straight weeks.” He added it is “part of why last Sunday was such a letdown. When viewers pay a premium price for a product, they expect flawless delivery, not the buffering icon of death.” Deitsch writes, “You can get a mulligan with subscribers as a new service,” but “with another hiccup, last week will seem quaint regarding customer complaints” (THE ATHLETIC, 11/3).
