Olympics stands out for equity in coverage amid report on coverage of women's sports

There is much more “equity when it comes to Olympic sports” in terms of men’s and women’s media coverage, while a report from The Collective -- the women-focused practice within Wasserman -- revealed that women’s sports comprise on average 15% of total sports media coverage, according to CBSSN’s Andrea Kremer. CBSSN’s Dara Torres said the only issue with equity in Olympics coverage is that the "coverage is really every four years" and "you don’t get that kind of publicity leading up to the Olympic Games.” Torres: “The media is only interested every four years. One thing that I think has changed a lot over the years from when I was a college athlete is we didn’t have the NIL back then.” Kremer talked about getting more visibility for women’s sports, asking, “Why does the WNBA put its finals up against the NFL? The NFL is the behemoth, you should not go against it.” Kremer said there needs to be more “shoulder programming” so fans can learn “who are these” female athletes because “we want to care about them, we want to tell their stories and that is what enables people to gain interest and to gain fandom. If nothing else, you do it yourself on social media.” CBSSN’s AJ Ross: “These athletes are doing more and more of that on social media, and social media is the place where you can meet these audiences better, especially younger audiences” (“We Need To Talk,” CBSSN, 10/31).
