League Notes

In Michigan, Kory Woods noted the NFL has expanded the "practice squad for all 32 clubs beginning in 2024 to include one international player" in an effort to "increase its global reach and create opportunities for athletes across the world." Starting in 2024, each of the 32 NFL clubs can "expand their practice squad to 17 players if at least one of them qualifies as an international player." The NFL's International Player Pathway program also has been "changed for this year, as two divisions" are "participating in the initiative." Beginning in 2017, the league "identified select divisions to participate" in the IPP, "allocating international players to them specifically" (MLIVE.com, 9/13).

STANDING ON ITS OWN: SI's John Hawkins wrote the LPGA has a "good product that comes with immense marketing challenges," and the "monolithic presence of the PGA Tour and the bubbling earthquake accompanying its proposed alliance with LIV Golf haven’t done the players even the tiniest favor." Former LPGA player Dottie Pepper said, “It bothers me that people think you have to support something just because it’s the right thing to do. The LPGA is good enough to stand for itself. It’s pretty darn good. Good enough to get the respect it has earned, not just because it deserves it" (SI, 9/12).
